Twin Peaks: Episode 7

Now THIS is how you do a season finale! This episode is near perfect, and hardly a second is wasted paying off many of the plot-lines that have been building all season. And that's not even talking about all of the cliffhangers that we are left with in this episode, with around half of the character's lives in grave danger after it's all over. You basically have no choice but to tune in to season 2 after this episode.

The episode begins with James and Donna snooping about Jacoby's office and discovering the tape of Laura's he had, which essentially wipes all chances that he was Laura's murderer. However, Jacoby doesn't get out of this unscathed as he witnesses who he believes to be Laura (it's actually Maddie) before he is attacked by a masked assailant. He ends up having a heart attack, and being very confused about what he saw.

Meanwhile, at One Eyed Jack's, Cooper is using his slick persuasive skills and convinces Jacques Renault that he has been funding Leo's operation and has a special job for him. It's all a set up of course, resulting in Jacques getting arrested, but not before he almost shoots Harry. Thankfully, Andy gets the drop on him, in a great moment for the character. Word of this heroism gets back to Lucy, who reveals to Andy that she's pregnant. But who is the father? Just another cliffhanger to keep us waiting.

Leo attacks and ties up Shelly in the mill, starts a timer to burn it down, almost attacks Bobby and then gets shot by Hank. The mill also starts on fire with Catherine and Shelly inside, and Pete runs inside with a rekindled love for Catherine that she began when trying to use him to find the ledger she was looking for. Nadine overdoses on pills, James is framed by Bobby with cocaine planted in his bike, and Audrey finds out her first customer working at One Eyed Jack's is her father. Woah. Oh yeah, and Leland kills Jacques thinking he killed Laura, even though we learn Jacques isn't the murderer, and COOPER IS SHOT SEVERAL TIMES IN THE CHEST. The amount that happens in this episode is staggering, and it all works out wonderfully. This is the definition of “What Happens Next?” Perfection.
